PREGNANCY & CHIROPRACTIC CARE

My first pregnancy was horrible. I had morning sickness for 19 weeks, reflux the entire time, back pain the third trimester and 36 hours of back labor before the baby arrived. Not exciting. My second pregnancy was COMPLETELY different since I had Dr. Amanda. The care I received and the knowledge I gained during my second pregnancy was priceless. I wish every first-time mom would see her. Not only did I enjoy being pregnant, I had energy, I had NO PAIN, NO REFLUX and my labor from the first contraction to the natural birth of my son was 9 hours. If you are pregnant you need Family Chiropractic

Samantha, Mother of Three

With the number of changes that take place during pregnancy, we know the care a mother receives is extremely important as it not only affects her body, her health and the outcome of her birth but the health of her baby. A woman’s body is designed to give birth. Not only does chiropractic care help support this natural process it will improve the woman’s ability to have a safer and more natural birth process.

By removing any stress to a mother’s nervous system her body is able to function optimally and focus on what it is supposed to be doing – growing a baby! The mom’s who utilize chiropractic care through out their pregnancy notice less pregnancy symptoms such as back pain, sciatica, reflux, headaches and fatigue. We love taking care of pregnant women. Why? Because by supporting the health of Mom, we are giving baby the best environment possible to develop in!

PEDIATRICS & CHIROPRACTIC CARE

I first started coming to see Dr. Cotey and Dr. Amanda when I was 7 months pregnant with my fourth child.  I was having sciatica pain and it hurt to move around.  The gentle care that Dr. Amanda gave to me and even the tenderness she showed to my unborn baby was amazing.  Not only did my pain go away – I knew I had found a doctor that truly cared.  Now all four of my children get adjusted and I can see the difference in them.  We are a family that continues to function at the top of our game thanks to the care we have received from both Dr. Cotey and Dr. Amanda.

Our doctors fantasize that someday every child born into this world will have the opportunity to be checked by a pediatric chiropractor immediately following birth. Why? Because the birth process is one of the most common sources of subluxation. A subluxation is a misalignment or lack of motion which then effects your baby’s health. The birth process, even a perfect natural at home birth can be a traumatic event. With the increased use of forceps, vacuum suction, Doctor “assisted” vaginal births and C-sections, the number of infants with subluxations are dramatically increasing.

When subluxations are present babies can present with a number of symptoms such as colic, ear infections, constipation, failure to thrive, reflux, torticollis and unfortunately the list goes on. Dr. Amanda believes that pediatric care is most important in the first few years of life. The neurological milestones babies pass through in the first 24 months of life are incredible. Holding the head up, sitting on own, crawling and walking are all extremely important developmental stages. Could you imagine falling down as much as a baby does when learning to walk?! At each stage, it is vital to ensure your child has no subluxations affecting his or her nervous system.

Pediatric Chiropractors are the only doctors trained in the detection and correction of a subluxation. By removing subluxations early on in a child’s life you are allowing your child the best chance at developing optimally. A subluxation does NOT always cause pain, discomfort or symptoms right away. This is why many parents are unaware of their presence until a problem has started. For parents outside of the above-listed symptoms, the posture of a baby can be a window to detect a subluxation. If you notice your baby will not turn its head to breast or bottle feed from both sides, constantly leans head in one direction, consistently bangs head either forward or backward a subluxation is most certainly present.

If you question if your child has a subluxation please contact us. Our doctors would be happy to sit down with you and check to make sure your baby has the best chance at an amazing, healthy life!

WEBSTER TECHNIQUE

I found Family Chiropractic through ICAN – the International Cesarian Awareness Network. I was searching for a Webster certified chiropractor to help me achieve my second VBAC. Dr. Cotey and Dr. Amanda turned out to be so much more than I expected. They treated me with respect, got to know ME, talked with me about overall health, and helped me achieve my 2VBAC. My entire labor was 3 hours long and the baby was in the PERFECT position for birth!

The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment aimed at balancing the pelvis. The purpose of the technique is to reduce the effects of sacral subluxations, SI joint dysfunction and pelvic imbalance which can cause inadequate uterine function, pelvic contraction, baby mal-presentation (breech or transverse), back pain during pregnancy and even a more difficult labor for mom (dystocia). Once balance is restored through the Webster’s Technique there is more room in the belly for baby to move around and therefore we have seen a number of babies move into an ideal position for labor (i.e. head down).
