Five Foundational Principles Event Series

Five Foundational Principles Event Series

Health is a very misinterpreted and emotional topic.  It can also be very overwhelming with all the “health experts” sharing their cure all advice.  There is an actual definition of Health and very few people know it, let alone understand it.  If you would like to experience health through out your lifetime, it would be a good idea to understand what health is and now how the body functions.  The 5 Foundational Principles will guide you and your family to your ultimate life, the life of your dreams, your goals not only today but for the next 20-30-40-years from now.  People want to be well, out of pain, they want to live longer and experience better quality of life. Why? Because they want to do the things they love to do; play with their grandchildren, go out with their spouse, take vacations and travel the world.  They want to be active with their kids. They see activity and being free and off medications as true freedom. They see that health is their greatest asset. It is the quality of your life and also the quality of your death. If you’re ready to take responsibility of your health, this series of classes is the place to start.

What are the aspects of your life that need to be focused on so you can live out the life of your dreams? Our current series serves to discuss these principles.  This month Dr. Amanda will be discussing your General Adaptive Potential (GAP). Do you know what your GAP is? Do you know how to improve your GAP? Do you know what decreases your GAP?

Southwest Quinoa Salad

Southwest Quinoa Salad
With summer on its way, this is an extremely versatile recipe! Our family enjoys this salad as a side to almost any protein or vegetable main dish, as the bed for grilled chicken, steak or portabella  and even serves as a tasty filling for any of our lettuce boat nights (our romaine lettuce version of a taco)!

Some personal edits we have made in the past are leaving out the corn, adding in some garbanzo beans or pinto beans, adding fresh diced tomatoes and adding diced avocados! In addition we will at times leave out the oil for the dressing and simply use fresh lime and lemon juice as the only dressing. The salad will not be as “wet” but without the oil can feel a bit lighter.

  • 1 cup quinoa cooked according to package directions (you can cook quinoa in either water or chicken stock to add a little more flavor)
  • 14 ounce can black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 14 ounce can corn, drained
  • 1/2 of a large red bell pepper
  • 4 green onions, diced
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • Juice from 2 limes
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt

  1. Cook 1 cup quinoa according to package directions. I like to cook my quinoa in either vegetable stock or chicken stock to add a little flavor. I also like to rinse it before I cook it. To do this, just place the quinoa in a fine mesh strainer and rinse it under water for a few minutes.
  2. When the quinoa is done cooking, fluff it with a fork, transfer it to a large bowl, and allow it to cool completely (about 15 minutes).
  3. In a small bowl whisk together lime juice, olive oil, ground cumin, black pepper and salt.
  4. When the quinoa has cooled, add in black beans, corn, red bell pepper, chopped green onions, and cilantro.
  5. Stir in dressing and toss to coat.
  6. Cover and refrigerate for at least an hour before serving. Leftovers the next day are even better!
  7. Enjoy!

Paleo Lemon Cookies

Paleo Lemon Cookies

Spring is here!

With the sun making more regular appearances, it makes me want to start switching out of our heavier peanut butter and chocolate rotation and into light spring flavors like lemon and coconut!

This is not my recipe, Cavegirl Cuisine deserves all the credit! We simply tested the recipe and everyone, including our girls, love the light sweet flavors.

  • 1/3 cup coconut flour
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened coconut flakes
  • 3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 3 tablespoons lemon est
  • pinch of sea salt
  • 3 tablespoons organic butter or ghee, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 cup raw honey
  • 1 large egg

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper
  3. Mix all ingredients until blended
  4. Place 1 tablespoon of batter on baking sheet about 2 inches apart. Using another piece of parchment paper (or wax paper) place over dough mound. Using bottom of a glass or other flat object, press down to flatten the cookies. Do this for each cookie until they are 1/8 inch thick.
  5. Cook for 12 minutes
  6. Let cool for 5 minutes. Transfer to a  cooling rack.
  7. Either eat immediately or transfer to the freezer if you like a crispier texture!
  8. Enjoy!

2017 Migraine Challenge

2017 Migraine Challenge

 2017 Migraine Challenge Application

Send fully completed application to or you can fax us at 724-741-6084.

It is that time of year again! No we are not excited that you are visiting this page because if you are this means you or someone you care about suffers from Headaches or Migraines and they need help. We are excited because this is the last time you will be looking for help.

Are you tired of suffering from migraines/headaches?

Are you tired of masking the pain with drugs?

Are you tired of missing family events? work? your child’s activities?

If you have migraines you know pain. Unfortunately so many migraine sufferers resign themselves to believing they are “unfixable.”  There is a solution and people need to know about it.

Let’s look at the facts:

  • Over 38 million people suffer from migraines
  • 9 million people state that drugs do nothing to help their pain
  • Studies continue to show that Chiropractic care can help migraine/headache sufferers
  • A study published in JMPT, showed that people suffering with migraine headaches were helped with chiropractic care. In this research 177 volunteers were studied who had migraine headaches for over 18 years on average. The average response of the group that received chiropractic care showed a statistically significant improvement in migraine frequency, duration, and disability. The study also showed that those who received chiropractic care were able to reduce their medication use, with a significant number reducing their medication usage to zero!

Are we really as good as we say we are? Yes we are. Our patients will give you their opinions:

“I sought out chiropractic care because my migraines had become so severe and frequent. Sadly I was out of commission about once a week for at least 24 hours. More and more frequently my husband had to take me to the ER for IV narcotics and fluids. That was our last option after Imitrex and all the other prescription pain killers didn’t work anymore. After only 3 months I have now been able to go a couple weeks headache free!  Dr. Amanda is very precise in her adjustments and excellent in her technique. I am so grateful for the excellent care and kindness I have received at Family Chiropractic.” – Linda

“I was suffering from extreme migraines that were greatly affecting my daily life at least twice a week. As the headaches were becoming more severe, so was my pain. I would lose my appetite, had terrible sleeping patterns, and even being labeled as someone with “a bad immune system” as I was always sick. I was receiving little to no results with “traditional medication” and figured that any other routes were at least going to rule out treatment possibilities. Within weeks, my symptoms were done. My headaches had been cut down to only four or five within five months. My whole body and the way it was functioning had improved.” – Seana

“I have had migraines for as long as I can remember, probably since I was about 8 years old. Just before the throbbing got unbearable I would have to lay down very still in a dark and silent room for hours. Sometimes they were bad enough to make me physically ill. This was really hard as a little girl! All I wanted to do was play outside with my friends. … at the end of the first month my migraines were gone. At the end of the third month, my headaches were gone! I am no longer leaving work early a few times a month for headaches/not feeling good.” – J.G.

“I started seeing Dr. Jordan … seeking relief of my headaches and migraines. I had approximately 2 migraines every month. They were very severe and would last for 2 days and were followed by a headache for a day or so. My symptoms were seeing spots, pressure behind my left eye and extreme light and sound sensitivity. Since seeing Dr. Jordan both the frequency and severity have drastically decreased. – Cory

Are you ready to be the energetic and happy parent, spouse, employee and friend you used to be?
Are you ready to NOT allow a migraine/headache to determine what you get done today?
Are you ready to start living your life?

If you answer YES to any of the above questions, then immediately download our Migraine Challenge Application below and give us the chance to give you your life back.

Lifestyle Integration

Lifestyle Integration

Everyone wants to be healthy.

People wish for health. People dream about being healthy. People even pray for health. (Ask any clergymen what the number 1 prayer request revolves around)

My problem is that most of these people want someone else to “give” them health.

Well let me be very clear…no one is coming to save you. You may keep wishing, dreaming and praying but YOUR Health is YOUR responsibility. Health comes from work. Years of work. Yes, I said YEARS.

Who in your life has said the words; “I wish I could lose weight. I pray that I don’t get cancer. I wish I did not suffer from headaches. I pray that they don’t give me another drug to take.”

I want to jump and scream to flag these people down! YOU are in control. This is YOUR life! Your health. YOUR body.  If you choose to not follow (or have not followed) the 5 basic Foundational Principles of Health – that is on YOU.

Why am I writing this? Why is it so blunt? Truthfully, it is because this is what most people need to hear. You need to know you can have cancer, beat it and enjoy life with your children. You can have debilitating migraines and after some simple yet profound work, never experience another migraine again. EVER! You can have a dysfunctional marriage and turn it around to a loving passionate continual courtship. YOU can have whatever YOU want.

So…why do so many fail to ever step off of their mentally, emotionally or physically unhealthy path and truly make a change for the better?

Healthy changes sound great. When at a seminar, listening to a podcast, watching a motivational YouTube video or reading an inspirational article people get caught up in the feeling that living a healthy life would give them. The information or story sounds great, it gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling and you begin to think you are actually going to turn your life around, not tomorrow but today!!  You are going to workout everyday (even though you have not worked out in months/years). You are going to eat organic only. You are going to never think a negative thought again. You will be the most romantic spouse/significant other. You are going to find an amazing chiropractor and never miss a wellness adjustment. (Come on, you know I had to throw that in there!)

Let me be completely honest with you: No. You. Are. Not. Stop kidding yourself.

No doctor, coach, book, video or seminar is going to change your life unless YOU are willing to change your behavior.

After the seminar ends, video ends or you leave our amazing health classes, Life. Happens.

You head home and…

The washer breaks.

The car has a flat tire.

The hot water tank bursts.

Life happens. Your warm and fuzzy inspirational feeling gets beaten into the ground with the harsh reality that you are still the same you. You are still living the same life, cycle and routine that you were before you were motivated. This routine makes it VERY difficult to implement any positive change.

If you want to grow in ANY area of your life, as Coach Joella Baker is infamous for saying, “Get comfortable being uncomfortable.”

In my opinion there are 3 key steps that you MUST follow, if you are to be successful at living a healthier life – mentally, emotionally and physically:

  1. You must WANT to do it. No. You cannot like the idea of doing it or think it would be nice. You are going to attempt to alter the way you have been living for years, to change this is going to take WORK. Are you ready to work?
  2. Lifestyle Integration. The only changes that are going to actually stick are the ones that you integrate into your daily routine of life.
  3. Stephen Covey said it best, “The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.” Once you integrate something into your routine of life, Do NOT let anything interfere. In other words – keep your eye on the prize!

To explain #3 let me share a real example that personally occurred in the past few weeks.  Cheryl one of our most special patients has been working extremely hard on integrating healthy eating and working out into her life for the past year. She is however my mother, a grandmother, a wife and a daughter taking care of her elderly mother. All titles which almost demand that you put other people’s needs in front of their own.

With my father retiring this month I asked them to pick a week night that we could schedule consistent monthly family dinners (they live an hour away). My mother’s response was, “Can we do any night other than Tuesdays and Thursdays because I have swim class those nights.”

ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Of course we can choose any other night. The success here is that my mom kept the main thing the main thing. She wants to be healthier and her swim classes are one of the ways she is reaching and beating her current health goals.

Choosing one thing to integrate into your life will not change your life/health/relationship over night.

It WILL put you on a better path. It WILL help you stay motivated. It WILL make you realize that YOU CAN DO THIS.
This is just the FIRST step. There are always more to come, but you will not reach them, until you take the first step.

miles  If you are interested in progressing your journey towards health, I would like to invite you to our infamous biannual event, Dinner with the Doc on April 18th.
